The Lord gave me a word for a dear sister the other day, and I wanted to share it because even I felt this powerful word resonate in my spirit.
The Lord brought to mind the image of a small fish in a big pond and told me to tell her,
“You have been feeling like a small fish in a big pond, working tirelessly to try to keep up with the bigger fish around you. Don’t be discouraged, your time as a small fish is coming to an end. I am training you to move from a small fish to a big fish. I am getting ready to promote you, but first, I need to equip you. Be patient for I am working through you to prepare you for this next season. I am refining your character and strengthening your faith. You will no longer be a small fish in a big pond, but a big fish in a small pond where I will move through you powerfully and success with be given to you in all you do.”
The prayer spoke powerfully to her as it was exactly how she had been feeling. Her days felt overwhelming compared to those around her doing the same thing. For her, she felt she could barely stay above water because she was having to work extra hard to keep up with the pace of her career.
Can you relate to her as much as I can? I felt like the Lord was speaking directly to me, too.
Early the next morning after sharing this word with my friend, the Lord spoke to me as I lay in bed. He said,
“Can you imagine a small fish being promoted to a big fish when the fish isn’t ready? Imagine a big fish with little fins. It defeats the purpose of the promotion. That is what it is like when My Children try to advance their destiny before My time. They jump into a career, ministry, place, position, or platform before they are fully equipped to handle the responsibility that comes with it. Just as a big fish with little fins is unable to swim, so will it be for My Children who trust in their own understanding and timing. But, for those who allow Me to strengthen, refine, equip, and prepare their faith and character, it will be like a big fish with big fins – perfectly capable to carry the new weight and responsibility I have given them.”
How powerful is that word!?
Sometimes we get carried away working so hard to keep up with others who have already been promoted into their destiny. Sometimes we even force ourselves into the next season of our journey because we see others around us advancing quicker than we are.
But the journey the Lord has you on is your journey. There is purpose behind the delay and if we are too focused on where we aren’t, we miss out on the miracles happening while we wait.
I want to encourage you to own your journey with the Lord. Let Him lead you, teach you, and train you to be fully equipped to advance into the next level of your faith. He is the only one that knows what your future holds and He knows what it’ll take for you to be able to “swim” and not sink.
As difficult as some days may be to abide in Him, trust His process. You don’t want to be a big fish with little fins that can’t swim, do you?
Neither do I.
“Now may the God of peace…equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:21
Be Blessed!
