Do you ever feel like your window of opportunity to serve the Lord is closing? Are you feeling bombarded by the overwhelming task of keeping up with every aspect of life?
If God doesn’t need the right space, place, or season to use to you, neither do you need those to serve Him.
Our lives are our platforms to exalt the Living King every moment of every day.
I was sitting in a church recently when the pastor said, “Do you know those freaks who talk about Jesus nonstop? They act like they can’t do anything without Jesus and credit Jesus for simple things like brushing their teeth or taking a shower. But, in reality, you need to brush your teeth because that’s called hygiene…(and on)”
I sat there pondering this pastor’s perspective of so-called, “Jesus-freaks”.
If thanking Jesus for the ability to take a shower every morning is grounds for being labeled as a “Jesus-freak” then sign me up!
If telling others the only reason I can do something as simple as brushing my teeth is by the grace of Jesus makes me a “Jesus-freak”, then I will wear the label proudly.
We, as Christians, have taken the very essence of “Whether we eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31) and have watered it down as if “whatever we do” doesn’t actually involve whatever we do.
But whatever we do matters. And sometimes whatever we do is all we have.
There are times our days only allow for us to praise the Lord while doing those very simple tasks like taking a shower or brushing our teeth. And sometimes those very tasks we have the grace to do are the only tasks we have to share the love of Jesus.
Don’t believe me?
Watch.
Next time you are brushing your teeth, begin to thank God for everything that has to work together to be able to brush your teeth. The muscles, the joints, the brain waves to your fingertips, arms and hands and fingers, being able to rinse without choking (which isn’t always the case with me! Ha!), having the health to require no assistance, and for having teeth to clean in the first place!
Next, praise Him for being the One to financially provide the tools necessary for clean teeth— your job, your ability to purchase freely from stores, your freedom to have and make your own money to use for toothpaste, etc. The list could go on forever, and that’s how it should be!
But how does brushing your teeth share the Gospel with others?
Take the praise from your time brushing your teeth and bring it to others.
For me, I have young children, so I share God’s grace with them while we brush their teeth.
“Isn’t it amazing how God gives us the ability to brush our teeth? He gave us arms and fingers to hold a toothbrush, the mind to comprehend what we are doing, and the health to do it all on our own! We get to brush our teeth because Jesus died on the Cross and saved us so we could have and do all kinds of good things!”
We so often want to wait to live our lives for Jesus when we feel “important” or “needed” by others, but we have the ability to live for Jesus right now. Today. In this moment.
Whether you are 15 or 95 years old, if you’re still living, you have the opportunity to bring Him glory every single day.
So, what are you waiting for?! Your teeth aren’t going to brush themselves 😉
Be blessed!
